Fallen Curtain The Ruth Rendell Books
I didn't much care for the title story, but the remaining ten just got better and better. I like (ok, love) Rendell's novels for the most part, but these short stories are great to carry with you if you haven't much time to invest....or if you just need to get to bed on time. The plot twists, even when somewhat expected, are still dark and creepy like her novels -- some more creepy than others. The final story, "Divided We Stand", creeped me out the most. Sorry, can't think of a more appropriate word right now, so CREEPY it is! Fallen Curtain The Ruth Rendell Books Reviews
This is just like all of Rendell's books....hard to put down until you finish it...read all of her works!
After reading The Fallen Curtain, I put a few more of Rendell's books on my TBR List. I can see how she ended up winning an Edgar Award with these meticulously planned stories. The build-up is like waiting for footfalls on the stairs in the middle of the night. When the inevitable eeriness finally hits, it's like a serum on frazzled nerves.
Four out of five stars! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys quick-reading mysteries.
I never miss a book from R.R. She never disappoints. She remains the best in psychological suspense that we have.
Really intriguing collection. A must-read for Rendell fans!
Tremendously exciting book. A pageturner that will leave you breathless as you get to the end. Ruth Rendell is a class act. Brava!
Ruth Rendell is one of the First Ladies of Misteries but this book of short tales falls short of possible expectations from such a star; small stories, some obvious, and looks like she wrote mementoes in her pocket book to write novels with those subjects, but never maneged to do them. OK, not so good tales from Ruth Rendell are better than some misteries from other writers, but there is no comparison between this book and her others, writing either as Ruth Rendell or Barbara Vine
These stories are typical of Rendell, well crafted, a wide range of subjects,In particularly I liked "The vinegar mother" and the story about the woman who keeps a "Venus fly trap" and feeds it with pieces of meat. As in all of these stories things end badly except for the story about the man who invites a small boy into his car and relives an adventure he had when he was a small boy.
