I am never skeptical of starting a new book I absolutely love reading and I am usually pretty easy going when it comes to different books. I can almost always start a book and enjoy ever minute of it. Yes I do look at book covers sometimes when I'm searching for a new book to start but not always. This book cover looked perfect for me so I was very eager to start reading it. As soon as I read the first chapter I was completely hooked! And I mean hooked bad!! I didn't realize how addicted I was until after I finished the first book. I was completely consumed by this book afterwards!! I am an honest person not just saying this because I got it free. I guarantee if you like these kind of books (romance, mystery, murder) you will fall in love with this series as I have!!! I am definitely a sucker for romance. And the romance alone in this story is so amazing. The mystery and murder is just an added bonus!! It has become an addiction for me. I think about this book while at work, while running erands, while eating meals, while cooking, before I go to bed, as soon as I wake up, the list just goes on and on! I have then gone on and purchased the next book in the series immediately after finishing one. If I could give this book a rating between 1 and 10 it would absolutely essential a 10 for sure! This book really does deserve a true 5 stars! I have started downloading other books by this author but I do not want to start them until I finish the series! You will not be disappointed with this book! You will find yourself clinging to it for more!!

I recently read the earlier books in this series a second time, and realized I had forgotten how much I loved the characters and the stories that Ms. Swank has created. It was with much anticipation that I began Thirty and a Half Excuses, hoping that this book would be as captivating as the previous books. I was not disappointed. This book was wonderful. It brought me through a range of emotions as I watched Rose continue to blossom. The characters that I have become so fond of were also allowed to grow, and show different sides of themselves. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!
This is the third book in the series of Rose Gardner adventures. It is light and quick reading. The characters are engaging, especially the humor which Rose brings. She does all her growth in the first book. Much of the second references her escapades. This version ends with a cliff hanger but I think it will be my last until I need a quick read which does not require concentration. Author Swank has great imagination and paints wholesome small-town characters. A reprieve from high-finance, high-crime, and deep law adventures.
Rose is evolving into the woman she was always meant to be...this addition was yet another intriguing mystery that kept me invested, guessing, and laughing to the very end, but I think this book also showed the growth of Rose and how she navigates relationships and circumstances around her...whether it is her complicated relationship with Joe, her passive aggressive relationship with Violet, or her new found connection to Mason, Rose is experimenting with confidence and self assertion which is making her character that much more appealing... I enjoyed watching her stand up for herself and others who are oppressed, judged, or ignored witnessing both her compassion and strength...I am intrigued to see how the story will unfold and how the development of Rose's personality will impact her decisions in the future....4.5 Stars)
Absolutely loved the book. I admitted I forgot what was happening in the last two books since it was while a go when I read them but Dennise has brought me back up to speed, describing at the beginning few details from previous books. Connecting all dots in early part of the book I kept reading and could not put it down. I have rated the last two book with 4 stars but this one definitely deserves 5 stars. It caped me in suspense from the beginning to the and, not beaning able to guess the ending. Loved it so much I do not know how I'll be able to wait till January next year for the 4th book in the series. Thank you Dennise for another fantastic read.
This third Rose Gardner mystery has Rose opening a nursery with her sister Violet and reluctantly investigating the deaths of a couple of elderly women. Joe is off on an an undercover assignment leaving Rose to depend on her friend Mason for support. Because of past actions, Joe and Mason do not get along which makes Joe jealous of Rose's relationship with Mason.

Rose also gets a job doing the landscaping around the new church in town. Jonah is a televangelist who is gaining parishioners at the expense of the other local churches. He also seems to be attracted to Rose which makes her unhappy because both Joe and Mason have warned her that Jonah and the church are under some kind of investigation.

Between Violet's marital troubles, Joe's socialite parents who are pressuring him to follow their plans and who hate Rose, and her investigation, Rose is in the middle of her usual chaos. What I like about Rose is that she does things because they are the right thing to do. She is a strong supporter of the underdog and the outsider because she has felt like an outsider all of her life. She also seems to have no concept of personal danger and stumbles into situations that are hazardous all the time. I like the way she is becoming stronger and more confident with each book.

I can't wait to read Rose's next adventure. I really want things to work out for her.
